About Empire Room:

From the same man behind tony after-work destination Campbell Apartment comes the Empire Room, a swanky new bar and lounge in the Empire State Building. Although anyone who waits in line for hours to make it up all 102 floors probably deserves a drink, the Empire Room will actually be on the ground floor but it’s huge, clocking in at 3,500 square feet. In a past life the space was home to a post office, but as the Empire Room it’s been given a $500 million makeover and outfitted with an Art Deco-themed interior that “harken[s] back to the golden age of the 1920s and 30s,” according to owner Mark Grossich. Their diverse (and somewhat pricey!) cocktail menu includes interesting mixes. Soak up the fancy booze with some truffled popcorn, miniature Wellingtons or rib-eye sliders.

ANDERS HOLST is what adult contemporary music has been waiting for. Rooted in jazz, soul and European pop music, Anders’ distinguished sound fuses sophisticated lyrics with lingering melodies, exploring themes of romance, isolation, optimism and the complexity of interpersonal relationships.

Born in Gothenburg Sweden, Anders grew up in a home filled with music. Not only from the thousands of choirs for which his nation is known, but also his father’s diverse collection – Artie Shaw, Duke Ellington, Frank Sinatra, and later The Supremes, Dionne Warwick and Burt Bacharach. Following his influences and passion, Anders wrote his first song at age eleven.

Nominated for a 2010 American Smooth Jazz Award, Anders was recognized alongside major label artists Seal, Matt Dusk and Michael Buble in the International Male Vocalist category. His tracks have appeared on numerous smooth jazz and AC charts, and he has performed on WNBC’s “Weekend Today.”

Anders’ second full-length recording, SoHo Suite, (due out June 7th) is meant as an ode to his New York neighborhood and the emotions it inspires. The album includes originals with a jazzy interpretation of the classic Michael McDonald tune, “I Keep Forgettin’ (Every Time You’re Near). Although not a far departure from Romantika and Five, SoHo Suite promises to bring a fresh approach to smooth jazz composition, as well as a refined maturity in both the studio and live engagements.

“I do believe that his honest and original love songs can give romantic music a brand new chance, so do your heart a favor, check him out.” – Quincy Jones

“It grabbed me instantly; I haven’t heard music and lyrics like this before. When you can play something unique after listening to music for 35 years, that’s fantastic!” – Fred Bronson, Billboard Magazine

CELEBRATE THE RELEASE OF “SOHO SUITE”

Poised for release on June 7th, Holst’s much anticipated album “Soho Suite” is making its advance debut at Eurocircle’s gathering on June 1st at Taj Lounge. Join us as we enjoy a live performance by this Swedish crooner in person and help him celebrate the release of his latest album.

THE PLAY…

Relentlessly daring playwright Wallace Shawn returns to The New Group to continue his vibrant collaboration with Scott Elliott (Aunt Dan and Lemon, The Fever, Threepenny Opera). This comedic masterpiece of marital strife recounts the day that Marie (Marisa Tomei) finally resolves to tell her charming and impossibly positive husband Bruce (Frank Whaley) that she’s had enough.

“Each of us is granted at birth the wonderful gift of consciousness– we can think, we feel, and we try to understand things. But there’s too much going on, we are horribly confused, and in our confusion we seek greater clarity by forming a bond with another human being. The search for understanding continues, but it’s even more complicated.”
– Wallace Shawn
