International Women’s Day has been observed since in the early 1900′s

Annually on March 8, thousands of events are held throughout the world to inspire women and celebrate achievements. A global web of rich and diverse local activity connects women from all around the world ranging from political rallies, business conferences, government activities and networking events through to local women’s craft markets, theatric performances, fashion parades and more. In some countries IWD has the equivalent status of Mother’s Day where children give small presents to their mothers and grandmothers.

Since its creation, Women for Women International has given hope to more than 299,000 women survivors of war and conflict and helped them move toward economic self-sufficiency with our year-long program of direct aid, rights education, job skills training, and small business development. Since 1993, Women for Women International has mobilized more than 250,000 women and men in 130 countries worldwide. For more info on Women for Women check out their site:http://www.womenforwomen.org

Guest bartending for a cure at Traffic Bar

Alex will be guest bartending for a cure at Traffic Bar on November 4th. A portion of the proceeds of the open bar will go to the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation.

There will be a 2 hour open bar for $35 or 3 hour open bar for $45

I also will get a portion of the tips throughout the evening and there will be a raffle with great prizes.

I am running in my first half marathon with Team Challenge in Las Vegas in the hopes of finding a cure for Crohn’s and Colitis. I am running on behalf of my two college roommates who suffer from Crohn’s for which there is not a cure.

Over 1.4 million Americans have Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, commonly referred to as Inflammatory Bowel Disease or IBD; however, many more suffer in silence due to potential embarrassment and alienation. Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis can occur in people of all ages, but it is primarily a disease of adolescents and young adults, affecting mainly those between 15 and 35.

Thank you for support!

If you are unable to make it and would like to make a donation please visit my donation page below.

Hope to see you all on November 4th.

Best,

Has the turbulent stock market spoiled your retirement dreams? For some of us, those dreams have been postponed, but others seem to have adjusted their retirement planning strategy successfully. Many of our Eurocircle members are in the financial industry, and have shared with me their stories of how they have reviewed their portfolios or found alternatives to compensate for these turbulent times.

In the coming months, I will ask some long-time members to share their expertise and ideas with the rest of the group, and perhaps we can all sleep a little easier.

Join Eurocircle as we sip a cocktail or two at the beautiful World Bar. We will meet Eurocircle member, Kara Peterson of Lee, Nolan & Koroghlian, LLC, who will give us some insights about how we can take more control of our retirement. The evening will start with a short presentation from Kara, and an opportunity to mingle and ask questions in person.

Drink specials, and the evening’s featured cocktail will be the Eurotini.

Your presenter for the evening is fellow Eurocircle member Kara Peterson, of Lee, Nolan & Koroghlian, LLC, 292 Madison Ave. 7th floor, New York NY 10017, 646-867-8357.

Featured Co-Hosts for the Evening

Join us for a fun evening out in celebration of the Fall at the Empire Room where a portion of the bar will go to the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation

A specialty cocktail EuroTini for $10.00.
2 oz Zante Liqueur (Pear flavored liqueur)
1 oz Premium Vodka
½ oz lime juice
1 oz cranberry juice
Shaken and poured into a chilled, sugar rimmed martini glass.

About Empire Room:

From the same man behind tony after-work destination Campbell Apartment comes the Empire Room, a swanky new bar and lounge in the Empire State Building. Although anyone who waits in line for hours to make it up all 102 floors probably deserves a drink, the Empire Room will actually be on the ground floor but it’s huge, clocking in at 3,500 square feet. In a past life the space was home to a post office, but as the Empire Room it’s been given a $500 million makeover and outfitted with an Art Deco-themed interior that “harken[s] back to the golden age of the 1920s and 30s,” according to owner Mark Grossich. Their diverse cocktail menu includes interesting mixes. Soak up the fancy booze with some truffled popcorn, miniature Wellingtons or rib-eye sliders.

Eurocircle’s Live Jazz with Anders Holst, Carlos Jimenez and Paula Jaakkola

Join us for a night of live jazz as we present two of our favorite and highly talented Eurocircle members at Taj Lounge.

ANDERS HOLST, a Swedish singer & songwriter and American Smooth Jazz Award nominee is what Adult Contemporary music has been waiting for. Blending smoky, emotive vocals with Anders’ signature velvety smooth sound, his new CD SOHO SUITE reflects an emotionally mature take on the nature of relationships and exhibits a new approach to adult contemporary composition and romantic music.

Yonkers, New York native CARLOS JIMENEZ is the next generation of extraordinary flute players. He follows in the footsteps of greats such as Dave Valentin and Nestor Torres. His talent and passion for Jazz, Latin Jazz, Salsa, as well as Brazilian and Asian sounds has resulted in him recording with many musical greats, including Hilton Ruiz, Stephane Ronget, Willie Cintron, Sonny Bravo and Edy Martinez.

Paula Jaakkola; New York City based musician, singer, songwriter and composer.

Our evening begins with EuroCircle’s signature cocktail the Eurotini, and then we’ll relax to enjoy the live performances of two talented jazz artists.

Don’t forget to participate in our raffle that benefits the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America as we will be giving away a signed Anders Holst CD as well as other valuable gifts.
