Tara Matthews found her life’s calling in Rio de Janeiro. While vacationing in Brazil four years ago, Matthews observed the thriving bikini culture, and stumbled upon the secret of a prize bikini after noticing that women of all sizes and shapes wore bikinis.

“I said Americans tend to wear really big swim wear, and actually the more fabric you wear the more unflattering it is,” says Matthews, 32. “Obviously there’s a fine line between what looks good on you, but in general if you wear a bikini bottom you’re going to look much thinner. Most people think they can’t wear a bikini. It’s having the right cut bikini.”

A bikini-worshipping culture helps too. "Everyone assumes that in Brazil it's all supermodels. The women are all shapes all sizes. It's the confidence."...read more
